Today some of the team members took a new photo!  We share a common passion for improving health outcomes and big impact matters to us.

As we share this with you it’s a great time to reflect on the great work from our team.

Vensa Health is having a dramatic impact on the health status of New Zealanders nationwide with their innovative mobile health (mHealth) solutions.

Currently over 750 General Practice customers use our mHealth solutions to deliver health messages to over 3 million Kiwis a year.  We have now most of DHB’s and PHOs around the country funding TXT2Remind tool for General Practice. We also have over 400 GP surguries paying for the service directly.

Our technology is having a dramatic impact.  It’s helping improve health outcomes such as child immunisation rates, early cancer detection and supporting smokers to quit.  Our case studies demonstrate improved population health (in line with Ministry of Health and Government priorities).

Notable examples include enabling Canterbury region to improve its Smoking brief advice from around 50% to 74% over the last two quarters, partnering with the 3 PHOs, and the DHB to enable this. An immunisation example is Raukura Hauora O Tainui part of Hauraki PHO, which raised its rates from 55% to 98% over 9 months.

Our system is used by doctors, nurses and administrators in General Practice to remind patients to turn up to primary care services.  Over the last year (August 2013-July 2014) millions of messages were sent including:

Appointment Reminders

Labs / Scripts

Cervical Smear

Breast Screening

Diabetes Checks

Smoking ABC

Heart Check

We conservatively estimate that our mHealth technology has resulted in at least 235 thousand fewer hospital attendances as a result of prompt and timely access to primary care services.  This equates to around a 10% reduction in hospital attendances to ED or admissions simply by people receiving their health text-message reminders on time. People are also receiving care closer to home.

The savings estimate is $337 million nationally in avoidable unnecessary hospitalisations in the last 12 months (based on $1500 per day per bed stay at the hospital). The savings for the sector is much more significant given that we have delivered over 12 Million health reminders since 2006.

The team has been working hard and we’re very proud of the impact we’re making by working with our partners, we can only build on this and continuie to innovate and change the world so ever slightly.

Great work team!!
