AUCKLAND, NZ., 31 July 2015
– Vensa Health, the leading mobile health (mHealth) solutions provider in New Zealand, has received an R&D investment boost with the award of a government research and development (R&D) Growth Grant. The announcement was made by Callaghan Innovation today.
Callaghan Innovation’s R&D grants programme is aimed at boosting New Zealand’s levels of private R&D investment and innovation. The R&D Growth Grant meets 20 percent of the cost of an eligible firm’s R&D programme, up to $15M over three years.
Ahmad Jubbawey, CEO of Vensa Health says, “We’re developing an open apps based mHealth platform that will allow patient users to connect with their health provider. This will allow health providers to introduce new models of care, predominantly in primary care, and patients to receive care more conveniently and efficiently from their health providers.”
Over 650 General Practice customers in New Zealand (65% of the market) currently use mHealth solutions developed by Vensa Health, to deliver health messages, appointment, screening and medication reminders to over 3 million Kiwis a year.
Jubbawey says the company has been investing in their next generation app based version of their technology for around 2 years.
“The growth grant will give our R&D programme an immediate boost and brings us a step closer to launching our new apps based Patient Portal platform in 2016. Our new technology will both help the company to scale and open up international markets.”
Jubbawey says by continuing to invest heavily in R&D they can find new ways to help improve health outcomes in a very direct and meaningful way.
“While we’re a technology company, what drives the team is moving the health system forward using smart new mobile technology. We’ve invested a lot of time on the user experience to ensure user friendly products that can be readily used to achieve health outcomes.”
With healthcare services increasing moving closer to homes and patients, Vensa Health has emerged as a visionary in terms of integrating this aspect of the care spectrum early, by working closely with the government and local health district boards, PHOs and GP practices.
Mobile devices are now an everyday part of life for most people. It’s how we listen to music, search the internet, and communicate with friends and family, and it can also play an increasing important role in healthcare delivery,” says Jubbawey.
Vensa Health was founded in 2006 when the company recognised the need for physician practices to improve patient management workflows. The company plans to release its next generation platform next year in New Zealand and Australia.
